The well living environment that people always eager for hasn't changed even with the continuous development of the times and technology evolution. Just as the architect XIA Zhu jiu mentioned, when the knowledgeable hypothesis of ''urban as a system'' turn to ''urban as process'', the city became the one of the ecosystem. However, the real difficulty is about human being, politics and the social context when we seek for the sustainable development. Therefore, we have adequate reason to believe that the imagination and variety of cities should not only focuses on the evolution of those hardware constructions, but also pursues the meaningful landscape and humanities which can be connected with civic life in the long term developmental process of the cities.
The exhibition <Floating Glimpse of Our Homeland> curated from this concept, gathered six artist YANG Che Yi, CHEN Pin Hua, HUNG Tien Yu, CHOU Tai Chun, TANG Tang Fa, SUZUKI Takahiko who come from different generation, region, create artworks by different media. They face the past, present and future by their own viewpoints of the cities. Some of the artworks present the vital symbol of each cities and villages, the overexploitation in some areas, the lovely daily life everywhere, and the epitome of global migration. As a result, it is meaningful and significant to curate the 10th anniversary of this renewed Hsinchu Art Gallery which set up from the Hsinchu state City Affair Office nearly a century.
Artist HUNG Tien Yu who graduated from the department of Arts of National Hsinchu Teachers’ College (former National Hsinchu University of Education) inspected the mountains in Taiwan for years, recorded the changes across over the landform of forests. He pointed the special situation that we interdepend and interact with the nature out through the erratic blank on the canvas. Therefore, the left blank presents the reminder, critic and accusation, which shows his deep concern regarding natural ecology. Artist CHOU Tai Chun who born in Hsinchu City revealed the extreme feeling of science-fiction, hinted the situation of this world nowadays. Furthermore, he also showed the indifferent observation of this land from the young generation simultaneously.
The artworks <Vendors Project> of the artist TANG Tang Fa which connected with the paintings, sculptures, installation and performance to view those familiar and traditional market from a fresh look. He turned these images as the media of his artworks to interact with audiences. It became a switch of the memory-recall and transformed the mindset of art. In the meantime, the Japanese artist SUZUKI Takahiko who lives in Taiwan many years seeks for the unique atmosphere which mixed with multi-culture around cities of Taiwan under his dual identity between foreigner and new resident. He collected those dismountable building structures such as betel nut stand and made a detailed model connected to the images with strong local aspect. It made the place that we always neglect easily reborn and also restarted the consideration of people about surroundings.
Artist YANG Che Yi from Yilan, Taiwan observed the real but ridiculous landscape of those illegal ''Non-decorated houses'' which just popped up for sale over the past few decades in Lanyang plain. The artwork <Dream House Project> invited audience painted an ideal residence by different colors through the imagination and sense. By doing this, the artist hopes to bring more positive power as we discuss of the homeland and resident justice. The art project <Artpartment Hsinchu City Affair Office> planned by the artist CHEN Pin Hua continued the former project <Artpartment Wan Wan>. Creating a real art space with the concept of sharing economy during the period of exhibition. It would not only exhibit the authorized image works of CC0, but also take the portrait for audience for free to exchange by a story about Hsinchu City life. Moreover, the exhibition also prepares board game for the audience to share their memory of Hsinchu in the gameplay.
Hope we can rethink the appearance of the cities belonging by a clear view through these artworks. Taking this as a base, we could promote the aesthetics of human's living space and the spiritual reformation to construct the living culture of tradition and progression.
